People are going to talk bad about you. They’re going to make up all kinds of lies and perpetuate themselves as meaning good. They’re going to try and slander your name. They’re going to say that you think you’re special, the only one, a know it all, and everything else under the sun. They’re going to come after your character, your integrity, and your position. But, can I give you the shout cue? Keep pressing because it only means that you are not like anything they’re used to. It means that you are making progress towards reaching your destiny. Ultimately, I want to encourage you to strengthen your resolve. Speak this declaration with me: “Fom this day forward, I no longer care what people say or try to do to distract, delay, or detour me from my destiny. I make this declaration that I will not falter or weaver in my stance. I will not succumb to the persecution that I face. I will not bow down, cave in, or quit. But, I will gird up my loins and the strength that God gave me, and I – WILL – BE – DIFFERENT! In Jesus Name! Amen!” Now, give him praise somebody! Step out into your calling! I WISH YOU WOULD!
On last week, I closed out the blog article saying that we needed to be renewed in our minds and be fully submitted and committed to the will of God for our lives. This week I am going to add a Part 2 piece to that new way of thinking.
Romans 12:2, “And be not conformed
to this world: but be ye transformed by
the renewing of your mind, that ye may
prove what is that good, and acceptable,
and perfect, will of God.”
This scripture represents the true foundation of being renewed in the mind so that we can begin to see transformation in our life. But, what does it really mean? Is the author asking us to simply change our minds so that we can change how we live? Is it really this simple? This is where I believe that quote in last week’s article, “Change your mind, Change your life,” comes from. In today’s church you almost feel like anything is acceptable to God as long as you have Jesus in your life. My question is simple: If that’s the case, then why do we see this scripture telling us to be not conformed but be transformed? Does the belief in Jesus nullify the scripture? Does the fact that Jesus shed his blood for our sins, died and rose again, and granted us access to the Father, His Kingdom, and His plan void out this scripture? It wasn’t until I started walking out the plan that He has for me that I began to realize that the scripture doesn’t just stop at renewing of the mind. There’s more to it.
When you move past that part you bump into this statement, “…that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Ting! Here’s a thought: In order to experience this portion of the scripture you must be willing to Be Different! What do you mean, “Be Different?” The scripture is telling us that in order for us to walk in, testify, and experience the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God that we must be willing to Be Different from the crowd (the world). How do I do this? Let me put it this way, are you willing to severe being led by the flesh and allow your mind to be renewed, thus being led by the spiritual/Godly way of doing things? Before you answer that question, let’s address what does it mean to Be Different.
Be Different is a phrase that I was taught early in in my walk with God. Why? I knew, understood, and submitted whole-heartedly to being called and chosen by God to spread His word to those that He would bring me in contact with; however, I did not understand that there are some things that I once did that I could no longer do. I didn’t understand that there were people in my life whose season had expired. I didn’t understand that I would have to change how I react or respond to people. Through all of this, perhaps the most important thing that I didn’t understand was that crowds and environments that I was once associated and/or affiliated with would no longer be suitable to my growth or maturity. Why? Most of the places or crowds that I was associated or affiliated with were a part of my life for many years, and I just knew that there was going to be problems. I soon learned that when a problem arises because of a positive change you’ve made it means that you are maturing and making progress (I’ll circle back to that in a minute).
When God reveals his purpose for your life, at that moment you have been called. Called into what? A life that requires you to surrender whatever you think you know about your life so that you can adequately and successfully adapt to His way of life for you. When your mind makes this shift in thinking, your statements change from “Lord I would…” to “Lord I’m willing…”. Willing to what? I’m willing to speak how He wants me to speak. I’m willing to be who He wants me to be. I’m willing to do what He wants me to do. I’m willing to go where He wants me to go. I’m willing to remove and let go of what He wants me to remove and let go of. I’m willing to deny, reject, and eject any and everybody whom He says is suspect. I’m willing to make whatever change He deems necessary, no matter how small or how significant. Simply put. I’m willing to Be Different! That’s why your circle begins to look different than it did before. That’s why your usual hangout spots and turn up crowds don’t provide the same level of pleasure and relief anymore. It’s not because you think you’re too much or stuck up, but it’s simply because You’re Different!
There is nothing wrong with your being different when you are in pursuit of your God ordained destiny. When God has called you into something that he has for you it requires you to be willing to Be Different! You can’t bring your old way of living, doing, and being into God’s promised land. Need Bible? Look at the children of Israel (Joshua 5): Before they could cross into the promised land which flowed with milk and honey (Canaan), it required them to circumcise themselves (meaning the removal of unneeded or unwanted flesh). Let’s look at Abram (Genesis 12-13). Before Abram could even be told the promises of God for his life, it required him to get away from his kinfolk (meaning flesh and everything that he once knew). Somebody said he took Lot with him, and you would be right. However, God didn’t show up to speak to him concerning the promised seed (Isaac) until he and Lot had separated. What am I saying to you? If you are going to be anybody in God and have God do anything through you, it’s going to require you to BE DIFFERENT!
You’ve got to be willing to tell some people goodbye in this new season that you’re coming into. Shout Be Different! You’ve got to be willing to tell some family members I love you, but your way is not the way for me. Shout Be Different! You’ve got to be willing to let go of some of your old habits and mindsets. Shout Be Different! You’ve got to be willing to change how you speak and how you converse with people on a daily basis. Shout Be Different! You’ve got to be willing to turn your back on your old way of living, doing, being, and seeing so that you can take on His way. Shout Be Different! You’ve got to be willing to be made fun of, be laughed at, be ridiculed, be lied on and talked about if you’re ever going to make an impact. Shout Be Different! Why did you say that Kean? Earlier, I said an important thing that I learned was when a problem arises because of a positive change you made it means that you are maturing and making progress. When you decide to Be Different get ready for the enemy to get on your tail. However, be not afraid; instead, put on the whole armor of God and understand that you are not fighting an individual but a spirit.
