Lord, Order My Steps!

“For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.  The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.  Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.  I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.  He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.  Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.”

                                              – Psalms 37:22-27

Most of the time in our lives, we feel as if we are moving in a straight line.  However, I have a disclaimer for you.  Your life is not made to move in a straight line; instead, it’s made to move in a circular motion.  What do you mean Kean?  The Bible says that there is nothing new under the sun, and there is nothing that God will do that He  hasn’t done already.  That should lead you to the conclusion that everything in this life is on a cycle.  Watch this.  The thing about a cycle is that it is a sequence or a series of events, but in due time it must come back around or begin again!  You missed it!  Let me help us today.  When God created the entire universe as we know it, He did it in seven days.  After that, He rested but the cycle continued by the days repeating themselves.  Same cycle, just in a new presentation.  Uh huh.  They say the Earth rotates on an axis every 24 hours.  Which means, every 24 hours the cycle of the earths movement repeats itself.  Same cycle, new presentation.  In keeping with time, there are 24 hours in a day, meaning every 24 hours the cycle repeats itself.  Same cycle, new presentation.  The days of the week are seven and then we start back at the first day of the week.  The days in a month are 30 or 31 with the exception of one having only 28.  Then, the cycle repeats itself.  The days in a year are 365, then the cycle repeats itself.  Same cycle, new presentation.  So, we see time is on a cycle.  Can I go further?
God created man and woman and joined them together.  He said the husband is to leave his mother and cleave unto his wife.  In other words, you have to break away from one in order to join the other.  Why?  Your whole purpose is to be fruitful and multiply, and you cannot truly do that if you are straddling the fence trying to hold onto the hands of your wife and your mother.  If you do, how can you take hold of your children’s hand when they come along?  Let that sink in a moment, but let’s move on.  When you join together there is a symbol of marriage between the two of you that is known as a wedding ring.  The ring symbolizes an eternal love that has no beginning and no end, but it is a continuous motion or cycle of events that builds, strengthens, and deepens commitment within the marriage.  Same cycle, new presentation.  The two of you come together, start a family.  The family grows up and are grown now.  What do they do?  Seek out their life long spouse and repeat the cycle.  Same cycle, new presentation.  You wake up and get ready for one of a few things; work, school, running a business, raising the kids today, or doing nothing at all.  Either way, it’s all a cycle.  How?  The next day it repeats itself.  Same cycle, new presentation.  What are you saying to us Kean?  Everything about you is a cycle, and as you continue living and doing what you were created to do your cycle should become larger.  How?  When the cycle comes back around full circle (the point the seems to be your last starting point), if you are moving and progressing correctly you should go up a level or make a transition to another level.  Thus, your new cycle has become greater.  In other words, you can’t experience promotion while trying to practice your way and forgetting about the one who outlined the cycle in the first place.  Oh that one was painful and confusing, so let me back it up with Bible for you.
Adam was the first man created.  His wife was the first woman created.  They were placed in a garden to tend and nourish themselves from.  Things happened, laws were broken, lives changed forever, and people were evicted.  They had to restart everything from scratch on top of doing what they were created to do.  If that wasn’t enough, they were now working to basically realign themselves into God’s will for their lives.  Sounds like a cycle to me.  Come here Noah, and your family!  God was getting ready to destroy the earth but Noah found grace in the eyes of God.  God spared him and his family, along with some animals (two by two-male and female).  Why?  I need y’all to reproduce and replenish the earth.  I also need Noah and his family to be demonstrations of what it means to live a life pleasing unto God.  Sounds like a cycle to me.  Come here Joseph!  I know you experienced all those hardships, but I need you to do something for me.  I need you to build your own family and be the Godly demonstration for all to see.  Why?  There is a nation and a people that I need to reclaim for myself, and I’m goin to do it all through you.  Come here David!  You are a boy after my heart and I need your services.  My people have lost their way and their minds again, so I need you to be the example for them of how to get back on track with me.  In addition, there is some territory that has been in a state of recklessness that I need to reclaim.  Come here Jesus!  You are my final, be all and end all, solution for my people who seem to have forgotten their roots.  They are down there living in lust, idolatry, and all other sorts of wickedness.  I need you to go and shake the foundations and core of these people.  In addition, I don’t want you to have a natural family, but I want you to build a spiritual family and following that will realign the people to my will.  Then, I want you to lay down so that they may get up, having you standing in proxy on their behalf.  All of this sounds like a cycle to me.
I’m getting ready to drop a bomb on you that seems to not be being taught in today’s church.  You ready?  Many times, we find ourselves saying “I just don’t understand what is going on in my life.  It seems like I take two steps forward and 10 steps back.” Come on and be honest here.  I know I have said it a few times.  Let me help us real quick.  There are times when God allows the enemy to come in and attack you and any/everything that is attached to you.  It seems like you are moving backwards.  However, we just learned that the steps of a good man are ordered by God.  That means, that all of your steps (the ones you take based on his written word and those that he allows to take you by surprise – those that appear to be good and the ones that strikes a mighty blow towards you) are ordained by the Most High.  See, faith is not just you getting what you hope for from God, but it is also believing God that in spite of whatever you are facing, He still got you.  In other words, though it may seem like a setback, it’s all an illusion.  You’re still moving forward in God’s plan for you life, it’s just your trying season.  We all encounter them.  However, can I lead you to the shout cue?  You’re still on track and on target to reach your expected end.  The only way you take steps back is if you take your focus, your attention, and your eyes off God and begin looking to the right and to the left.   Well there’s another curve ball, so what does that mean Kean?
Come here Children of Israel!  You remember them, don’t you?  These are children whom God had heard the cries of and grew tired of seeing their affliction.  What did He do?  Come here Moses!  I need you to go down there and tell Pharaoh to let my people go.  Don’t worry about your weaknesses or your vulnerabilities, but keep your mind on the things which I have spoken to you.  If Pharaoh acts like he is not going to do as I say, don’t worry about it.  Why?  I am going to show him and allow him to experience all the pain and suffering that my people experienced in their oppression.  Fast forward.  Eventually, Pharaoh decides to let them go, chases them, gets drowned, and the Children of Israel are now in the wilderness.  They were praising when they saw Pharaoh get swallowed up in the Red Sea, then they began to look around and saw where they were at.  The conditions they faced took the praise out of their taste, and they soon turned their face from the Most High God to focusing on their current place.  Oh that was good, so let me say that again.  The conditions they faced took the praise out of their taste, and they soon turned their face from the Most High God to focusing on their current place.  Next thing you know they were just acting a fool with it.  They were practicing all sorts of wickedness, worshipping idol gods, questioning Moses and God, and just running wild.  In return, God kept prolonging their wilderness experience.  Now, can I prove that it was all a cycle?
The Bible tells us that their journey through the wilderness should have only been 11 days long, but due to their current mindset and way of living it was prolonged.  Watch this.  The numerical system goes up to 10 and then repeats itself at 11.  So, we see there is a cycle of numbers.  But, God said it should have taken them 11 days to come out of their wilderness experience.  So, basically they should have spent 10 days in the wilderness and came out on the 11th.  Why?  The 11th marks the start of the next phase of the journey, but they couldn’t get past the first 10 without having to repeat over and over and over again.  Get this.  They wasn’t repeating or prolonging the experience because of making new mistakes, but it was the same mistakes that they were making over and over and over again.  They kept taking their focus off God and placing it on their circumstances.  They kept taking their focus off God, and placing it on their situations.  They kept taking their focus off God, and kept trying to do things and live life their way.  Their life was moving around the circle of life cycle, but they kept looking to the left and the right and getting off track.  Question:  Are you doing the same old things that are responsible for your wilderness experience being prolonged?  Are you still practicing old habits while trying to walk out a new and redefined life?  Have you taken you attention off God, and allowed what’s going on around you to cause you to question God and his tactics?  What are you saying to us Kean?
Believe it or not, your life is on a cycle and you have to keep your focus and attention on the creator and founder of the cycle if you are going to begin a new cycle (level of promotion or inheritance of the promises of God) at the appropriate time.  However, the more you focus on what’s going on around you, the more you give your attention to the things that people are saying about you, the more you look at the pitfalls setup on your left and the snares in place on your right, then the longer it will take you to come out of your cycle and be promoted to the next cycle.  I’m saying fix your eyes on the master and look towards the hills from which comes your help.  Adopt in your mind that a thousand my fall at my left and 10,000 at my right but it shall not come near me. Why?  “Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation” (Psalm 91:9-16).  Oh that’s shouting stuff right there!  I said that’s shouting stuff right there!
Can I close this thing out now?  I think I can.  Real quick, I want you to take a moment and begin to walk in a circle with your attention focused on the next step in front of you.  After about 10 steps, I want you to take your attention from the next step ahead of you to looking at the right or left (but keep walking in the circle).  Question:  Did you stay on course or did you find yourself strayed away?  More than likely (9 out of 10), your course was altered and you found yourself wondering how in the world did I get all the way over here?  Can I give you the shout cue?  That’s the way our lives look when we take our eyes off God and the steps that He has ordered us to take.  That’s the way our dreams look when we begin to focus on what could happen, what might happen, or even what has happened.  That’s the way our children look when we are allowing everything but the leadership of God to raise them.  Oh, that didn’t make y’all want to shout!  It’s still the truth.  The thought of how did I get over here is the same that God has when we allow everything that we are facing, everything we see going on around us, and everybody that has an opinion to have influence in and over our lives.  Here’s the good news:  There’s still hope and it is very possible for us to realign ourselves with the path that God has originally outlined for us.  Somebody said how?  I’m glad you asked.
Shout Order My Steps Lord!  The path to realignment is the same as the path to enlightenment.  In other words, turn from yourself and your ways, and return to Him and allow Him to be your guide.  Need Bible for this?  “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).  Shout Order My Steps Lord!  Once you have realigned yourself, you have to start listening, hearing, and heeding the instructions of God.  There is no more room for your perception, your intellect, or even your preconceived notions of warnings.  Please understand, I’m not saying that God wants you to be dumb, but I am saying that what you think you know is no match for the instructions that He is outlining to you.  Shout Order My Steps Lord!  Now, that you are listening, hearing, and heeding it’s time to start stepping out on faith.  What do I mean by this?  It’s time to do what He says do and how He says do it.  It’s time to say what He says say.  It’s time to live how He says for you to live.  It’s time to walk out your life in the manner that He has already preordained for you to walk.  What does this look like?
I think I’m going higher!  Shout Order My Steps Lord!  God says I want you to quit this and leave that alone.  So, your first step is towards removing those things, ways, and/or people out of your life.  Life comes along and says “you need that or that person for this or that reason.”  Your mind will automatically try and veer off into looking around you to assess the damage as a result of you acting on what God says.  That’s when you have to begin to talk like God talks and say what God says.  How do I know what He says?  It’s in your Bible!  Shout Order My Steps Lord!  So, when this happens you begin quoting scriptures or the words of God over your life.  You begin to tell yourself, God said that He will never leave me nor forsake me.  He said He would supply all my needs according to His riches and glory by Christ Jesus.  He said a thousand will fall at my side and ten thousand at my right, but t will not come near me.  He said that He is a present help in times of struggle.  Since this is a struggle for me, God I’m fully expecting you to help me through this.  Shout Order My Steps Lord!  Stuff starts collapsing and floods are now flashing.  What do you do?  The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear!  He is the strength of my life of whom shall I be afraid!  God is my refuge and my strength.  What am I showing you?  Each step you take will have some new challenges, but as you make a step you back it up with word.  Step, Word!  Step, Word!  Step, Word!  Don’t stop stepping and by all means don’t stop speaking!
I feel my help coming now!  Shout Order My Steps Lord!  Lord I don’t know how or when I’m going to have a completely renewed mind, but I’m making the step towards it.  For your word says that I must present my body as a living sacrifice, Holy and acceptable to you.  Especially since this is my true form of worship.  Shout Order My Steps Lord!  Lord I’m not sure if I can handle another attack of the enemy, but I’m going to make the step anyway.  For your word says that you will never put more on me than I can bear.  Shout Order My Steps Lord!  Lord these afflictions are overwhelming me, and I feel like I’m getting ready to break.  However, since I know that you are for me I’m going to make another step.  For I know that many are the afflictions of the righteous, but you shall deliver them out of them all.  Shout Order My Steps Lord!  It seems like I’ve been through so much hell, high water, heartbreak, heartache, and huge disappointments, but I’ve made up my mind that I’m going to keep on steeping.  It is my understanding that weeping may endure for a night, but I’m fully expecting joy to come in the morning.
There more I step, the more word I speak.  The more word I speak, the more I step.  Why?  Each step builds confidence.  Each step builds character.  Each step builds patience.  Each step builds my overall awareness that my life is truly not mine own, but it is His.  Since it is His, it is also His responsibility to ensure that although I’m experiencing my wilderness season right now, although I’m experiencing trials and tribulations right now, and although I’m experiencing major blows to my image right now, I fully believe that He will show up and show out of my behalf.  That’s why I step and speak the word.  I speak the word and step.  They both work hand and hand with one another, and one without the other cripples me from reaching my expected end.  That’s why no matter what comes my way and no matter what I may face, I will continue to turn my face to God and Shout Lord, Order My Steps!  Be blessed and stay encouraged!
