I’ve Learned My Lesson!

“Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.  Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.  He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.  Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.  Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.  The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”

– Proverbs 9:5-10

Can I have a moment to yield some wisdom that was taught me this past week?  Thank you!  So, I have been having some issues with my car lately, and I need this same car for business purposes.  Every issue I kept running into kept requiring large amounts of money in order to resolve them.  Saving for a rainy day kept getting harder and harder.  Then, one day a routine maintenance issue came up.  I had to go and get an oil change for the car.  However, this time I just felt led to go to a new place for some reason.  What did I do?  I followed that small voice and went to this new place.  Upon arrival, I was informed that my car would need full synthetic oil and that was the only oil they could put in the car.  This ran my pressure up, because as you all know this type of oil change is the most expensive one.  In addition to price, I was reminded that all these other places kept putting in regular conventional oil (even the dealership).   Nonetheless, I decided to go by the dealer’s recommendation.

This is where things got slippery and nearly cost me a ton of money.  When the guy went to check out the engine oil levels, he informed me to shut the engine off and come see.  Upon arrival to the engine oil I discovered oil everywhere.  How?  I had to remove the oil filler cap to top off my engine oil levels (the day before) in between oil changes and forgot to replace it.  The guy informed me that the engine was very hot and that he was surprised that it did not seize up or blow up due to the current oil level.  What surprised him was the fact that I was still able to drive it for so long with no issues.  In my mind, I knew it was nobody but God that was sparing my engine. Next, the guy informs me that he is not going to be able to change the oil without having the oil filler cap.  So, I proceeded to drive around looking for one to buy.  Here’s where something became obvious to me.  When I left the oil change facility, I heard that same small voice say, go back to where you topped off the oil.  However, I ignored it because I was on the side of the road, which in my mind means that cap has fallen off somewhere and is most likely impossible to find.

Real Quick: Say this to yourself, “Obedience to God could potentially save you time and money in the long run.”  It’ll make more sense in a moment.  I went to about three different stores looking for this oil filler cap, and no one had one.  They had one that the system said should fit my car, but when we tested it out it was discovered that the system was wrong.  I called two different dealerships and neither was in possession of this oil filler cap.  Everyone kept saying it would have to be ordered, which could take up to three days before it arrives. Then, one mechanic guy came out and informed me to put a paper towel in place of the oil filler cap to prevent the oil from shooting everywhere.  He came to the car and looked at it and was surprised that the oil had gotten everywhere except on any major mechanical components.  At that moment, all I could say was “Thank You Lord!”  Suddenly, that small voice came again and said go back to where you topped off the oil.  Nonetheless, I went and prayed the entire way that I would find this thing.  Upon arrival to the spot, I got out the vehicle and checked for it.  It was nowhere to be found.  That same voice came and said go back in the direction you went yesterday.  I began driving.  The voice said slow down, and I did.  Not even more than 500ft away, I drove up and saw the oil filler cap sitting in the middle of the road. I immediately started thanking God and praying that it wasn’t too badly damaged to where I couldn’t use it.  When I got out to grab it I noticed this thing still looked new.  It didn’t have any damage to it, and it was as if it was never in the middle of the road.

I broke down, started crying, and praising God all at the same time.  Why?  This road that the cap was on is one that many cars, school buses, and 18-wheelers travel down throughout the day, yet this cap was sitting in the middle of the road and not one car (including mines) managed to run it over.  Too add to this, it had rained a lot the day before, yet this cap was still protected.  Then, I heard God say this to me and it took me out.  Brace yourself, because it may take you out also.  God said, “You were out here getting ready to pay for something that I had already reserved and preserved for you until you were able to get to it.”  I barely got through typing that without getting ready to go in.  That hit me hard, because I realized that if I had just followed that voice the first time (instead of letting my human common sense interfere) I could have saved myself a lot of time, gas, and money (replacing gas).  Then, that got me to thinking how He stretched out his hand and shielded my radiator, my fan, the fan belt, the electrical wiring from being affected by this oil shooting out.  It’s as if He was saying to the enemy, “No!  I will not let you use this mistake of his to destroy anything else.”  I started praising even more.

I feel like lifting up the name of Jesus now!  Can I press this just a little bit more?  Pressing I shall!  After it was all said and done, I got to thinking “What else are you trying to pay for that is already reserved and preserved for you?”  I pose this same question to you all.  Are you trying to pay for a man or woman that you think you need, when God already has your husband or wife reserved and preserved for you?  Are you trying to pay for a child, when God already has your child reserved and preserved for you?  Are you trying to pay for schooling to get to a career, when God already has your career reserved and preserved for you? Are you spending every dime you have trying to save a house or car, when God already has your house and car already reserved and preserved just for you? Are you trying to give and pay your way into a relationship with God, when He already has your relationship reserved and preserved just for you? Are you still trying to make amends and pay for your past sins, when God already has redemption and resurrection power reserved and preserved just for you?  Come here woman with the issue of blood (I’m sorry person that needs healing). Are you trying to pay for healing and restoration, when God already has those things reserved and preserved for you?

What are you saying to us Kean?  Before you go out and start paying for stuff that you think is yours, or that you think need, or that you think the only way to get it done is through you paying for it, check with God.  Better yet, seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:33).  So, to close out this week’s article I have one simple question for you:  What are you trying to pay for that God already has reserved and preserved just for you?

Be Blessed and Stay Encouraged!
